Trial/Probationary Period Start Date Field Instruction

This topic has been updated to rename the Probationary Period Start Date field to Trial/Probationary Period Start Date.

Trial/Probationary Period Start Date

Enter the beginning date of a 2 year trial/probationary (or trial) period. The system automatically removes the date after one year of creditable service. Also select the calendar to select the date.

‎Complete when tenure is 2 and type appointment is 01.

‎Complete for type appointments 01, 02, 03, and 06 through 09.

‎Complete when the type appointment 01 or 06 and the tenure is 2.

‎Must be blank for tenure 0 or 1.

‎Must be blank for tenure 3 with type appointment 08.

‎Do not process a personnel action to remove the date.

‎Enter the effective date of the ascension if previous service is unknown.

‎Cannot be later than effective date of action.

‎The Payroll/Personnel System generates the effective date of the action as the trial/probationary period start date if a date is not entered for the following Nature of Action Codes:
Code - Description

100 - Career Appointment

‎101 - Career Conditional Appointment

140 - Reinstatement-Career Appointment

141 - Reinstatement-Career Conditional Appointment

170 - Excepted Appointment

‎If this date is prior to the effective date of the accession, adjust the date to include any previous service which is creditable toward the probationary or trial waiting period. Do not adjust this date to include prior periods of nonpay status; this data must be entered as a Standard Form (SF) 1150, Record of Leave Data Transferred, payroll document. To enter an SF 1150, select 160 Leave Data Transfer on the list of Payroll documents.
